But we ask the question whether there was a systematic study of the fundamentals of the economic behaviour or life of man ; the why the what and the where of social sciences ; and also of the economic problems and their solutions. [...] India and Persia were the home of the former and the Mediteranean shores the home of the latter. [...] But no man who has ever realised the beauty and value of the Indian culture which is the glorious heritage as much of the Kshatriya and other Aryans and Dravidians nay of the Musalmans and Christians of India as of the Brahmanas can agree to this. [...] It was in fulfilment of the great world-wide mission of this Lard of Mercy intended to bring enlightement to the whole world that the Universities of the modern type where a large number of pupils were at once taught by great specialists in the various departments of knowledge as well as the great missionary bodies carrying the grand gospel of Dharma to the four corners of the world—to whos [...] The maintenance of the highest ethical standard in every department of life was.the consummation aimed for by the Smrities and the honour of actually realising this ideal not merely in the conduct of the higher classes but also in that of the masses was reserved for the Great Asoka and his successors.
