The late Sir B. B. Ghosh in whose death Bengal mourns the loss of a distinguished Judge of the Calcutta High Court and a member of the Executive Council of the Governor of Bengal and for a time of the Viceroy of India passed the whole of his college life in this institution during the years 1883 to 1889. [...] A Judge of the High Court of Calcutta for fifteen years and officiating Chief justice on four occasions and a member of the Executive Council of the Governor of Bengal even at the time of failing health he had the unique reputation of commanding the respect of the Government and the people simutaneously. [...] Bhupendranath Basu Vice-Chancellor of the Calcutta University Member of the Council of the Secretary of State for India and Member of the Executive Government of Bengal Sir Ashutosh Mookerjee Judge of the High Court and VicChancellor of the Calcutta University Sir Ashutosh Chaudhuri Judge of the High Court also Mr. [...] Its investigations extend in place from the centre of the earth to the summits of the highest mountains from the depths of the ocean to the uttermost parts. [...] It was resolved " that a subscription be entered into for the purpose of endowing one or more scholarships in the name of Bird in order to perpetuate the remembrance of the sense entertained by this meeting and the inhabitants of Calcutta of the great exertions of William Wilberforce Bird in the cause of Education."
