It is needless to say that it is for the first time in the annals of the Hare School that a student of the institution has made such a substantial gift calculated to promote the physical interests of the students. [...] At the time of our going to the press for the publication of the present issue of the magazine the matches in connection with the above shield were still going on. [...] One of the signs of the intellectual decadence in a nation is the inclination on the part of most of its constituents to take for granted what is found to be prevailing say from time immemorial.
