It is needless to say that it is for the first time in the annals of the Hare School that a student of the institution has made such a substantial gift calculated to promote the physical interests of the students. [...] At the time of our going to the press for the publication of the present issue of the magazine the matches in connection with the above shield were still going on. [...] One of the signs of the intellectual decadence in a nation is the inclination on the part of most of its constituents to take for granted what is found to be prevailing say from time immemorial. [...] There may be another reason and that is the satisfaction of seeing "the two hands united." (to use the words in common parlance) before the coming death of the karia of the family. [...] It is further not atEARLY MARRIAGE AMONG THE HINDUS t all desirable to burden a man with the cares and anxieties of a large family early in his life when he has neither the sinews of war nor the experience of the world sufficiently large to be equal to such a responsible situation.
