The news was received at Benares by wire on the afternoon of that date and the College was closed the next day as a mark of respect to the memory of the senior and most honored Trustee of the College and in recognition of his 31 years’ unremitting labors for the regeneration of the Indian people in that deepest and most important aspect of life the religious and philosophical which overpowerin [...] Only in the happily numerous minority whose culture in the home has counteracted the ifluence of the school is to be seen the survival of the elder grace the elder courtliness the elder dignity. [...] The effect of the religious teachings in the Missionary Schools was far more disastrous; they withered up the tender shoots of faith in the hearts of the boys and trampled the fertile soil of devotion into an arid desert too hard and dry to nourish the germs of any religion ; they made sceptics and materialists out of Hindus and Muslims and destroyed the basis of ethic by destroying religion in [...] ANY of our readers will know that Colonel Olcott the President of the Theosophical Society and one of the Trustees of the C. H. C. has for the last 25 years done all in his bower to promote the education of the people in India and Ceylon. [...] The unerring artistic instinct of the Greeks led them to value tragedy as "purifying the affections of human nature through the influence of pity and terror.' In regard to dramatic method the first point to be noticed is the fact that the Unities of Time and Place are not observed only the unity of action being kept in view.
