The only problem before us is to find again the ancient life-stream of the villages." The importance of the 'village reconstruction' is the greatest in India. [...] The nomenclature "village improvement" would mean the bettering of the life in the village through the provision of amenities such as roads education sanitation healthy amusements and so on "Village uplift" indicates the utterly decadent state of th e country-side and a concerted effort to raise the standard of living of the rural folk. [...] According to the Report of the Royal Commission on Agriculture the aims of such a reconstruction would be the 'advance of the rural community towards a fuller life and the means to be employed should be designed "to awaken the desire in the rural community for better things and to assume such individual member of it against the temptations that beset him without impairing either his self-interest [...] With the advance of time the test of genius is becoming harder and harder —the key to the gateway of genius lying in ever increasing heap of the knowledge of the past. [...] Can there be anything nobler and more beautiful than a full-blown white lotus on the blue surface of water or a bunch of Juthika'' flowers at the close of a rainy night ?
