In the centre is the platform where the Boarders meet and talk and watch the fish in the tanks of Mlles which surround it and cool the air with the spray of fi untains. [...] The instruction given should be the suitable part of the information gathered in the Agricultural College—the natural history of the place the useful and mischievous birds the insects the diseases of plants the signs of the inroad of parasites the ways of distinguishing good and bad seeds the eradication of weeds etc etc. [...] It is sometimes said that the position of woman in a country marks the level of civilsation to which the country has risen ; but it seems to me that the position of the child even more marks the state of the community and that where the children are not carefully.nurtured and protected there the nation canot expect either the blessing of God or the respect of man. [...] The King is the father of every fatherless child and the helpless and the suffering look to him for rescue and for compassion ; and it is surely the high privilege of those who represent the Crown to take the place of guardian of t1.- helpless children of the comunity so that the —av see in the person of the highest the one wri represents to them protection safety and succour. [...] Let us now turn to the relations between the Europeans and Indians that exist in the C. H. C. To unite the East and the West was of course at the back of the mind of the promoters of the Institution and the relations that do exist here will always be a lesson to Indians and Europeans alike.
