The Europeans are jealously excluded from the country and the only portion of Nepal exclusive of the Terai which is accessible to the Europeans is the famous valley of Nepal containing the capital and the principal cities of the Kingdom and a few adjacent smaller valleys. [...] The quickest and easiest means of access to the valley of Nepal is the road which runs nearly north from Segowil passing through the Terai and the sal forests to Bichikori then through the beds of mountain streams through a pass in the Chiriagati range and through the sal forest to Hetoura thence by a wide and good road to Bhimredi at the foot of the Sisaghuri range of hills. [...] The Germans for instance call the French donkies from the musical point of view ; the French call the English 'shokeepers' employing music if at all to attract the street-going people to their shops; the English brand the Indian Music as nothing but tom-tom; and the Indians look down upon the English Music as but the sickness of the muse. [...] If for the production of music the discovery of the musicians is a condition precedent ; and if for the discovery of the musicians the creation of the musical audience is a condition precedent ; then for the creation of the musical audience the condition precedent is the opening of music schools and colleges or at least music classes in the already-existing institutions. [...] Gautama—the husband of Ahalya The story of Gautama the husband of Ahalya is another version of the struggle between materialism and spiritualism carried to excessive sensuality by the poetic fancy of some writers like that of the birth of Budha the son of Soma.
