In the following I give an abridged account of some results of these observations :. The calculations of the absolute value of these elements depend as well upon the change in.the magnetism of the magnets employed as upon the regular changes of terrestial magnetism corresponding to the time of observation The latter element must be deduced hereafter from the observatories of Madras and Bombay [...] At the sunnuit of Tonglo the obR.rvations on the temperature of the air and on the moisture on the temperature of surface of the ground etc. [...] Decrease and variation of the temperature of the airs Comparing the Sikkim Himalaya in generalewith the plains it is very manifest that the law of decrease of temperature for the annual and monthly means as particularly for the extremes of single days is a very different one from the plains to the range of mountains not exceeding 6000 or 7000 feet and not very distant from the plains—and from [...] The temperature also of the lower part of the hills in the neigbourhood of the plains is frequently affected by the fog which.rapidly ascends along the slopes and does not change the tempertuip of the air confined between the vesicles of vapour at a rate corresponding to the variation of their height. [...] I found one direction of the cleavage in the sandstones on the surface of the plateau of Oherra coinciding with one system of cleavage in the gneiss at the foot of the hills ; several other systems of cleavage are decidedly different in the different succession of rocks.
