In the young individual examined the colour of the body and tail consists of broad transverse alternating black and yellow bands the black bands on the body being more than twice as broad as the intervening yellow rings but on the tail the difference between the breadth of the two decreases. [...] oxiana the length of the bead is thrice the height and nearly twice the breadth in the temporal region (whereas in N. tripudians the length is only twice the height and one and a half timer the breadth) and that there are two larger temporals in front in contact with the postoculars the posterior temporsls being numerous and scarcely larger than the back scales whilst in the Indian cobra the te [...] undularis and in two specimens two and in the other four distinct whitey-brown spots the blurred pupils of the obsolete ocelli of the undeside showing through. on the upperside of the posterior wings ; below they are much lighter than the males the subapical triangular patch of lilacino ground-colour in the anterior wings and the submarginal Mackie ground of both wings but especially in [...] The characters of the venation and the structure of the palpi remove this species from the genus Taneecia in which it has been placed by Moore to Adak* whilst the form and colouration of the wings in the male assign it a position in the system next to or in the immediate neighbourhood of d. sarada of which indeed the above described insect might on a cursory view of the upperside be mis [...] Three males and a female from S. Andaman variable in the size and connections of the black spots and bands of the underside and wanting the minute black spot at the anterior end of the common white baud of the upperiside.
