It is later seen that in the light of the researches of Zweigclt (468) galls are the result of a gradual process of mutual adapttion between the Gallenwirt and the cecidozoen and that the plant produces the galls primarily not for the benefit of the cecidozoen although the latter derives benefit from galls. [...] Towards the close of the century an important step in the advance of the science was the starting of periodicals devoted entirely to cecidology. [...] Feeding habits larval habits etc.—Cecidozoa feed either on the solid substance of the gall with the help of their biting and chewing moutparts or suck the juices of the gall cells with the help of their piercing and sucking mouth-parts. [...] The larvae of the majority of the ceeidozoa complete their development in the gall but several of them do not stay in the gall till they are fully developed. [...] In the majority of the other cecidozoa like Diptera Coleoptera Hymenoptera and Lepidoptera the escape from the gall is effected through the exit holes specially made by the cecidozoa.
