Six years ago when the Government of Bengal made a statutory grant of 5 lakhs of rupees to the University of Dacca Sir Abdur Rahim from his seat in the Bengal Legislative Council. as the spokesman of the Government of Bengal assured the members of the council that when the question of recurring financial grant to the Calcutta University would come up for consideration of the Government the Un [...] Sir Ewart Greaves the then Vice-Chancellor complained bitterly against "the whip' hand" of the Government and in his farewell address to the University in June 1926 warned the members of the University against the insidious attempt on the part of the Government to make the University a mere annexe to the Secretariat. [...] Wherever there is a serious conflict between the duties of the Chancellor and the responsibilities of the Governor the responsibilities of the head of the province usually prevail. [...] the Faculty of Arts the Faculty of Science the Faculty of Medicine the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Engineering. [...] The brilliant researches of the great French chemist Moissan the inventor of the electric furnace on the carbides of metals have once again brought the theory of the inorganic_ origin of petroleum to the forefront (1894-1896).
