India To-morrow Saturday 27th February 1932

1932

Karl Marx has given the following apt definition of the situation of the working class under capitalism : From the social point of view the working class constitutes the same property of the capital as the tools that are used by the workers. [...] The soviet union was able to create the state of affairs when it took the means of production out of the hands of the capitalists and drove the latter out of the country. [...] The cause is that in the Soviet Union political power is in the hands of the working class whereas in the capitalist countries it is in the hand of the exploiters. [...] The prophet and the philosopher the saint and the politician the representative of the dumbmillions and the generalissimo of the Indian nation Mahatma Gandhi has dominated the Conference Table and stamped himseil ineffaceably on the present generation of the English people. [...] He was acclaimed as the avowed champion of a New India that is ushering itself anew out of the chrysalis of the old and the perfect embodiment of the spirit of revolt—not only against foreign domination—but also against the materialism of the West —sapping the very life blood of a nation whose spiritual heritage is limitless and illimitable.
