I. Introduction.-This note purports to study the phenomena of subdivision of holdings and fragmentation from the available material on the subject as also from the sample data collected in accordance with the established principles of stratified random sampling covering the whole of the Province. [...] This estimate of the true average size of holding is calculated by dividing the total area of the holdings in the sami.le pertaining to a district by the number of holdings observed in the sample for the district. [...] The average size of a holding on the other hand takes care of the factors involved in measuring the sub-division of land because it involves the area under cultivation in the numerator and the number of holdings in the denominator. [...] The distribution of holdings and of fragments are given in the tables at the conclusion of the note. [...] The association between the average number of fragments per holding and the size group of the holding is very close as will be seen from Table V. It is safe to say that in general the tendency for the number of fragments per bolding is to increase as the size of the holding increases.
