The Messenger of the Sacred Heart for India December 1919

1919

450 commonly called parish missions is not the making of converts to the Faith but the fuller instruction of Catholics the convesion of sinners the rousing of the torpid and indifferent the lifting of the good to a still higher plane of spiritual effort. [...] The fast and the prayer and the longing Advent wail is the only prelude to the pure gladness of the angels' song in the watches of the night. [...] Next comes the coversion of Saul the persecutor of the Church who had helped in the death of Stephen and from henceforth was to be at once the least and the greatest of the apostles. [...] Though the history dates as far back as the early part of the 17th century yet alas ! the many documents relating to the same are completely lost owing to incessant wars in the country and the subsequent effects on the missions and the difficulty of communication. [...] The name of the saintly Bishop Bigandet the first prelate of the mission in Burma will remain immortal in the annals of Burma owing to the indefatigable zeal he evinced for the spread of the Faith and for education in Burma.
