Vigil - an Independent Political Weekly Saturday March 18 1950

1950

It will in the popular mind be accused of having sacrificed the life of one of the fighters for freedom and a redoubtable champion of the poor to their obstinacy and false sense of pretige. [...] The argument advanced by the States-cum-Home Ministry is that this incident" is an interal affair of the State and even though the State may be ruled by a Rajpramukh and there may be no forum for the ventilation of grievances yet according to the Constitution the Centre has no responsibility. [...] Apart from the administrative fiscal and tranport uniformities forged by the centre and inhering in the costitution two forces seem to be acting against regionalism:-t the growing power of the state of the India Union and the extesion of industrial capitalism in the hitherto undeveloped or under-developed zones. [...] According to many people this is one of the instances of the manner in which the revolutionary urge of the people is being balked by the Congress which after the assumption of power has in their opinion ceased to be ntional and is consolidating itself as a party nay the sole udivided party and thus dening the people of the fruits of their desire for further necesary changes. [...] It is time that the Ministers realised that they and the members of the Parliament are collaborators in the task of governance.
