When too high the mark will appear to float above the ground and when too low it will split into two separate dots ; thus the experienced observer is able to walk" the dot round the hill so that it just touches the ground all the time : meanwhile the pencil at the plotting end of the instrument automatically traces the contour on the plot sheet at the required scale. [...] This article has been written to study how the present boundary set up by the award of the Boundary Commission will affect the different river systems of Bengal and how the latter in turn affect the health wealth and properity of the land. [...] It is hoped Quit now with a strong Centre under the Indian Union it should be poseibfre with mutual adjustment to take up the various schemes of improveMe*s of these rivers that are so urgently necessary for the innMtenfidee and development of the Port and City of Calcutta and of the area lying to the west of the Bhagirathi-Hooghly. [...] As the Ganges enters the province of Western Bengal from Bihar it divides the counrty into two—the area to the south being the big block mentioned above and the area to the north comprises the new districts of Malda and West Dinajpur. [...] The process of deterioration of these spill channels has starte from the days when the main flow of the Ganges was diverted frot the Bhagirathi to the Padma in the 17th century.
