The Pennsylvanian coafields which are very near to the Ship-Building centres produced nearly half of all the coal raised in the U. S. A. and is the greatest single bituminous coal porducing area in the world." The NortEastern and the South-Western areas produce the Anthracite coal the best type in the whole world. [...] The eastern part of the Raipur district the western part of the feudatory States adjoining the Drug district and the Mungebi Tahsil (of the Bilaspur district) the south-western part of the Drug district and the south-western part of Kanker fall outside this natural region. [...] In the north-east lies the Chhota-Nagpur Plateau and between this and the Maikal range is the Pendra upland connecing the two and forming a part of the divide between the great southern feeders of the Ganges and the northern feeders of the Mahnadi. [...] On the west a great spier of the Vaikal known as the Saletekeri Hills rises to the elevation of about 1 700 feet and runs southwards to form a part of the divide between the Nerbudda and the Wainganga on the one hand and the Mahanadi on the other. [...] On its northern that is the left bank of the Mahanadi where it flows out of the basin the hilly border is continued wesnorth-westwards near the Hasdo and the Mand rivers to the foot of the Maikal Range.
