Bhāratiya Vidyā. July-December 1950

1950

The record styles the prince a Maldimarglaleivara and gives the genealogy of the house from Dridhaprahâra its founder down to Bhillama (III); and what is signficant in this case is that the details it supplies with regard to the princes mentioned therein are more exhaustive than those found in the Sarhgamner and the Kalas-Budrukh grants s the earliest of the known records of the house. [...] These two inscriptions constitute the whole of the epigraphic material at present available for reconstructing the history of the house for the period from c. A. D. 1045 to c. 1065 or strictly to say from A. D. 1025 to 1069 the former of these being the known date of the Kalas-Budrukh grant and the latter that of the Bassein and the Waghli inscriptions as just seen. [...] In his Bassein grant we read that he had under him a ministry of seven to look after the affairs of administration in his kingdom.26 This is not the proper place to discuss the details of the ministry of seven; however it may be noticed here that the division of work under the seven heads and the distribution of the respective work of each of them go to show that under this ruler the foundtion [...] the objective counterpart of breath of life is what is dear because out of love for life and for fear of death one is willing to do even what ought not to be done; the objective counterpart of the eye is the true for what a man sees with his eyes is the truth; the counterpart of the mind is the blissful because by the mind one betakes himself to a woman and a son like himself is born who is blis [...] What is new in his teaching is the conception of the fate of the unredeemed or of the man who did not gain the immortality and the conception of the redemption or desired immortality.
