The journal has been erhaps the only mouthpiece and periodical of the ill-fated teachers of Bengal for several decades past and I as an humble member of the pr fession and a sincere well-wisher of the journal deem it a proud privilege in being asked to send a contribution for this special issue and I hope that my brother-teachers elsewhere will seriously consider the pros and cons of the suggest [...] The student community may be compared with the vast quantity of the fluid on the surface of the globe—the sea water—that readily and visibly responds to the z traction of the heavenly bodies. [...] It not only gives realities to the study of geography and history but also widens the mental horizon of the pupils and rouses in them a love of the country and countrymen and a pride in the possibility of a prosperous India. [...] Establishment of a much larger number of schools judiciously distrib tted so as to fully serve the needs of the whole country is a condition pi dent to the introduction of compulsory primary education and she ulc engage the most serious attention of the government and the put 'ic. [...] The Independence that we brag of achieving after a non-violent struggle said to be nation-wide has proved to he at least for the present a Dead sea apple being the fruit of the sacrifice of a handful of great souls out of millions and not of the little best of each one of us not at all of the Russian pattern.
