The Textile Digest - Quarterly Journal of the Textile Association (India) April-June 1951

1951

The inauguration of the Conference at your hands is an unique occasion and a further step in the advancement of the cause of the Textile Technologists. [...] We all of us are concerned in the growth and the expansion of the Textile Industry in its various aspects and I hope therefore that the deliberations at this Conference will ultimately lead to the benefit of the industry and the nation. [...] In the preparation the finisher aims at making the fabric most recetive to the even and level application of the dye and has regard to the appearance and handle of the cloth bearing in mind the particular finish he may wish to apply. [...] Under the conditions of padding just stated above there is scarcely any affinity between the dye and the wool so that in the course of experimental work it was found that the depth of shade obtained was determined essentially by the concentration of the dye padding liquor and by ph of the acid-liquor. [...] This is in accordance with the experience of " Elod and Kochenlin " that in ordinary wool dyeing the equilibrium of dye-absorption is independent of the ratio of liquor to wool and is affected solely by the ph.
