The Textile Digest - Quarterly Journal of the Textile Association (India) January-March 1952

1952

It should be made clear that the information and recommendations are entirely from the wpoint of the conditions prevailing in this country and the condielms that may exist for a number of years hereafter and suitability of the labour and technique available. [...] The change of shuttle takes place from the side by just pushing one shuttle out by means of another helped by a lever from the front of the sley whereas in case of the Pirn Change mechanism the pirn has to be forced in from top of sley to push out the other pirn which requires great force precision and correct timing. [...] Since the rings of the pirn must fit in the grooves of the spring of the shuttle a little mistake will cause failure and 'somtimes accident and breakage. [...] The addtional advantage of this kind of Let Off Motion is also found in the texture of the woven fabrics and durability of the cloth for the obvious reason that the elasticity is preserved and the tension is uniformly maintained. [...] On the face of it it is alluring ; as under the latter system the Weaver gets 3 looms' wages for his efforts and the amount of the wages of the 4th loom minus proportionate wages of the extra hand employed for helping the Weavers goes to reduce the cost of production.
