In answer to the charge that the Church of Spain—confronted with the dilemma of persecution by the Government of Madrid or enslavment by people representing unchritian political tendencies—chose serv[...] Not long ago the report of the Abbot Enquiry Committee on the state of Secondary Education in India dplored the general lack of facilities for training in art in the curricula of schools and recommended the intrduction of such facilities at the ealiest opportunity particularly because Indian handicraft could not hope to compete in the industrial markets of the future unless they were a [...] But the threat of a catastrophic drop in the popultion hangs even over these as it hangs over every country whether of the West or the East that once admits the practice of birth-control: "In view of the unity of European civilization and of the evidence that in respect of size of family as in other matters the rest of Europe is imitating the west we may expect that the trend of fertility [...] Carr-Saunders shows that the economic factor has not been the main influence in the restriction of births:— "The dates at which the practice became widespread in the different countries as shown by the beginning of the fall of the birth-rate make it plain that density of population had nothing to do with the matter. [...] Carr-Saunders is quite right in the other causes to which he attrbutes the limitation of the family: the secularist spirit which has upset the traditional moral standards; the feminist propaganda which has pitured woman's life in the home as a drudgery; economic difficulties and the social ambitions of parents.
