The two main objectives of the new Crusders" are : (i) to break down all obstacles to Free Trade within the Empire and (ii) to make the 'financial resources of the Empire more fully available for the benefit of all the parts. [...] The Council consists of the Premier the Minister of Unemployment the President of the Board of Trade and the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries. Other members are to be added as found necessary by reason of their special knowledge and experence. [...] The inability of the officers of the State in gauging the temper of the money-market was never exposed so nakedly. [...] The combined figures of the Oriental and the Empire which form over two-thirds of the total assets have been shown separately in the table in order that the nature of the invesments of the Indian companies may be seen more clearly : (In lakhs of rupees) Total Oriental RemaiAssets and ing Empire copanies Stock exchange securities at par. [...] The more the age and stability of such life offices the greater the danger from them to the cause of Jndian industry and trade.
