The cathedral is remarkable for the fine statuary to the north and south porches the rose window to the northern transept and the flying buttresses of three arches one above the other the two lower being connected by radiating balusters resembling the spokes of a wheel. [...] The Council still awaits a Report from the Practice Committee with regard to " A Standard Mode of Measurement of Builders' Work." With reference to the Revision of the Constitution and Bye-laws the Council appointed 'a Special Committee to draft the new Constitution and the Bye-laws and the Committee after holding several meetings presented to the Council their Majority and Minority Reports. [...] In view of the Thomas Reorganisation Committee's Report to abolish the Sir J. J. School of Art Bombay the Institute have sent the following resolution to the Minister of Education to the Government of Bombay :— That the Council of the Indian Institute of Architects while appreciating the Reorganisation Comittee's recognition that the School of Architecture should not be abolished deplores [...] After the middle of the 19th century things in Bombay began to move very fast owing to the expansion of trade and the improvement of transport this arose as a result of the American Civil War the introduction of the steam locomotive and the opening of the Suez Canal. [...] I am given to understand that these modifications consist in reducing the size of the plots the width of the roads and variations in the position of the open spaces.
