[...] Some of them are the holding of land in small and diffused patches which reduce the average holdings and lead to consequent evils the primitive methods of cultivation and poor out-turn of crops the usurious rates of interest charged by money-lenders the illiteracy and ignoance which make the ryot an easy prey for exploitation the high mortality and the low vitality of the cattle which prov [...] The reasons may be attributed to the ignorance of the people of India who failed to assimlate the principles of co-operation the policy of deofficialisation at an early stage of deelopment of the movement which gave free play to selfish motives and personal interests and too much emphasis on the credit side of the movement which has a deleterious consequence on the non-credit activities.
