For ever in the history of all things it is the duty of the more developed of the more highly civilised to be ready to sacrifice their comfort to raise the condition of those in a worse condition. [...] The starry heavens and the mighty ocean a murmuring brook and a still lake great heights and deep chasms a paleface or a pale lily the song of birds and chifdren's early words the shady bowers and the cooing of the dove the heroism of a Lenidas and the ardour of a Laodamia a quiet countrhouse and the waving corn—all come within the denotation of the term ' Beautiful.' But in what do [...] It is surely far-fetched to suppose that the pleasure of colours is wholly explcable by association ; that the beauty of white is due to the suggestion of sunshine and the attendant common pleasure : that of red to blood combat power ; that of blue to the clear sky and the delight of serene weather ; that of green to the swing. [...] The use of stamp mounts for the arTanginent of the specimm; in the album has now become so general that it is almost needless to refer to the use of the gum-pot. [...] of use for these hinges is to affix a small portion of the mount to the top of the stamp turning over the remainder so as to form a hinge which allows of the specimen being turned back for the examination of its reverse side.
