This note of has been included as an appendix to Chapter 3 of the report."( ii ) It would be observed that this report is concerned chiefly with the history of the preparation of the schedules the progress of dicussions in relation to them and the operations of the National Sample Survey in connection with the Poona Schedules. [...] The Finance Minister of the Government of India is reported to have said in reply to a question in Parliament that the data used for The estimates put forward in the Interim Report of the National Income Committee were based on the results of the N. S. S. Refernce to the appendix contained in the report of the N. I. Committee will show that in actual fact the National Income Unit based its es [...] Therefore leaving aside the differences in the coverage of the Poona and Calcutta Schedules the differences in their approach and the much shorter reference period of the Poona Schedules it would appear that even from the purely statistical aspects of the sample size and the tabulation procedures the results of the Poona Schedules would be found more valuable. [...] There is firstly the whole complex of the occasion of the enquiry the person who makes the query and the attitude of the respondent. [...] The discussions centred maily round two points; firstly the scope of the Survey as represented by the contents of the questionnaires to be used and secondly the extent and the manner in which the Gokhale Institute could possibly partcipate in the survey.
