The causes of this unprecedented state of affairs are (1) increasing dislike of living in a building likely to be infected by plague and of renting rooms which will probably have to be evacuated before the end of term (2) a dimintion in the number of students who matriculated (3) the raising of the rent of the rooms simultaneously with the raising of scholars' fees. [...] In the absence of a wall the compound is made the receptacle of the rubbish of the Police chawl. [...] The number of admissions in the workshop fell from 64 to 52 owing to the raising of the standard of admission into the sub-overseer's class to the School Final or*Ainnlation test. [...] The increase of 2 in the number of Aided High Schools is dueto tilt addition of the St John's High School and the Epiphany High School (Girls) Panch Hovds Poona and the Private High School Pen (Kolaba District) and to the closure of the Church Mission High School at Hyderabad in d. Fnder the head ' Unaided ' the number of High Schools shows a net e of one. [...] In the Central Division the Zoroastrian Boarding School Deolali (Nasik) and the Girgaon night class Bombay and in the Northern Division the Proprietary High School Ahmedabad were added to the list during the year under report; white the Ripon High School Bombay and the Hindu Academy Karachi were transferred to the list of Middle Schools the Private High School Pen (Kolaba) was transfer
