Completion Report and Schedules Lower Bari Doab Canal

The earlier projects for the irrigation of the Bari Doab and the soil surveys of the lower portion of the Doab are also matters of special interest. [...] The watercourse system of the Lower Bari Doab Canal has been designed on the basis of the rectangulation and level surveys of 1911-13 whilst the canal and distributaries were aligned on the basis of the contour plans of the surveys of 1901-:3: It has been found that in several cases the alignments of the canal and distributaries are seriously faulty a fact which points to the desirability in fu [...] The result of this decision generally was to increse the Rabi irrigation of the Lower Bari Doab Canal and the Kharif irrigation of the Upper Chenab Canal whilst correspondingly reducing the Rabi irrigation of the latter canal and the Kharif of the former. [...] This the third of the large Colony Canals in the Punjab was the pivot around which swung the idea of using for irrigation the waters of the rivers from the west instead of from the east. [...] pointed out that the westward diversion of the Sutlej was contrary to past practice of existing canals in the Province and that the scheme then under consideration would have the lamentable effect of depriving the uplands to the east of the river for ever from participating in the benefits of irrigation.
