Administration Report of Irrigation Works in the Bombay Presidency 1911-12 With Accounts and Statistical Statements

The Muvalia Tank in the Panch Mahals filled to R. L. i19.00 only e. 4 feet above the sill level of the Right Bank Canal and 1 foot below the sill of the Left Bank Canal and the supply was utilized for the irrigation of 20 acres and 34 gwithas in the kharif. [...] The construction of the masonry dam at Chankapur in the Kalvan Taluka of the Nisik District to store water for the Girna Left Bank Canal as well as for the extension of irrigation under the existing bandharas or weirs on the Girna River was completed by the end of March 1910 ; all the minor works in connection with the tank which then remained Nifinished were practically completed during the yea [...] The increase in area and assessment is due :- (a) in the case of the Krishna Canal and the Yerla River Irrigation Works to greater demand for water in both the kharif and rabi seasons owing to scanty rainfall : (b) in the case of the Upper Man River Works the Chikhli Canal and the DambaI Tank to greater demand for water during the kharif season. [...] for want of timely rainfall the increase in area during that season exceeding by far the decrease in the rabi area consequent on insufficiency of water in the reservoirs : kc) in the case of Golcak Canal and the Madag Tank to increase in the rabi area consequent on failure of late rains in the year. [...] Owing to the non-occurrence of hot weather thunderstorms on the catchment area the supply of water in the tank Jell short of requirements on the i5th of May 1911 and the deficiency continued till the 21st May 1911.
