s. s. " Chupra " and s. s. Huzara." In the case of the " Chupra " chartered by King & Sons the contract rate was adhered to but the Board in view of the necessity for procuring another vessel to relieve the pressure at Madras undertook the responsibility of Chartering the " Huzara " at an increase rate of 5/- per adult ; beyond this no other expenses were incurred excepting Cable Messages [...] The outbreak of sickness amongst the Indians recruited in the DepOt at Madras last August caused the s. s. " Cong-ella " to leave that port without the usual complement of Emigrants and in the succeeding month the s.s. [...] In a great measure the passing of the Law 25 1891 which came into force 8th September 1891 has been the means of considerably increasing the receipts."5 The addition of the Stanger Hospital above referred to was found to be a necessity owing to the large and increasing number of Indians employed in the Circle ; the establisment of this Hospital has already more than justified the action t [...] The arrangement whereby the Up-Country Inspection had been nndertaken by the Protector and Assistant Protector terminated at the end of February 1892 owing to the fact that the duties had assumed such proportions that it was no longer competent for the Inspection to be done from the Durban Office. [...] The Board has again the pleasure to express its appreciation of the manner in which the work of the Department has been carried out by all the Officers.
