Nothing is known of the subsequent history of Cochin State till the advent of the Portugese except that there was constant strife between its rulers and the neighbouring chiefs especially the zamoi-in of Catlin/ In r5oz the Portuguese were allowed to settle in the town of Cochin and in the following year they built there a fort.
