20 000 a year was offered by the Indian Central Cotton Committee and accepted by the Bombay Government for the study of the physiology of the cotton plant under irrigation in Sind but owing to the delay in starting the Sakrand Experimental Station and9 also to the extreme difficulty in getting a good man to take charge of the work it has not hitherto been possible to get the work started. [...] (a) ToArds the cost of the investigation of cotton improvement in Khandesh.... 5 000 (b) The finance of the cotton crop in Central Gujarat........ 5 000 (c) The finance of the cotton crop in Sind.. 5 000 (d) A re-examination of the finance of the cotton crop in Khandesh.... 5 000 The results of the work on (10 (c) and (d) will be noted in next year's report. [...] In Gujarat as the Co-operative Societies in the Olpad Taluka have agreed to sow the approved cotton seed of the Agricutural Department the restriction as to transport of cotton by road over the country to the south of the Nerbudda river has been removed. [...] SERVICE Apart from research and propaganda there are certain services which the Agricultural Department performs for the agricultural public the chief being the supply of certain kinds of seed in large quantities and of implements and manure in certain cases; the boring of wells and the designing of pumping plants and in recent years the designing of land improvement works for construction by [...] During the year the work of compiling statistics of the cotton pressed in the Bombay Presidency by the Director of Agrculture under the provisions of the Cotton Ginning and Pressing Factories Act has been continued.
