Deputation to The Hon'ble The Minister For Commerce And Labour Government of Bengal.—The Committee of this Chamber as a result of the discussion of the position of the Jute Futures Market decided to wait in deputation on the Hon'ble the Commerce Minister Government of Bengal and to submit a Memorandum stating its views on the subject of the Futures Market. [...] T. S. Sankara Iyer the Financial Commissioner of Railways on Wednesday the 2nd August 1939 at 3-30 P. M. The representation of the Chamber on the Local Advisory Committee of the Eastern Bengal Railway was again referred to the Commissioners and Sir Guthrie Russell the Chief Commissioner promised to consider the claims of the Chamber and provide a seat for a representative of the Chamber on t [...] A letter was addressed to the Government of India on the 27th June 1939 expressing the views of the Committee on the findings of the Burma Enquiry Report and emphasising the main issues that had to be dealth with at an early date namely the recognition by the Burmese Government of the principle of payment of compensation for losses sustained by Indians and secondly to adopt necessary and a [...] The Committee decided to support the representation made to the Government of India by the Indian Chamber of Commerce on the subject and a letter was addressed by the Committee to the Goverment of India on the 30th September 1939 inviting their attention to the request made by the Indian Chamber of Commerce for granting adequate protection to the manufacture of Kraft as the manufacture of t [...] It was pointed out in this letter that the suggestion of the Central Board of Revenue to adopt the rates of depreciation prevalent in the United Kingdom was not acceptable to the Committee as they were of the opinion that the conditions of the two countries were different and the same rates would not hold good for India.
