The separation of the mixtures into their coponent parts and the testing of the economic value of the types found therein has proved a very fruitful piece of work and the measure of success achieved in this direction is indicated in Appendix I which however does not tell the whole tale. [...] Further work on the transpiration of the rice plant indicates that the early races live faster and that this quality is reflected in the ratio of the surface of leaf to root which is markedly greater in the early races than in the later ones. [...] It may therefore be stated that a failure of the wheat crop on the irrigated parts of the Peshawar District was averted by the extended growing of Pusa 4. A thorough test of the cropping power of the Pusa and other wheats in different parts of the province has not yet been made in BIHAR AND ORISSA but the area under improved wheats is increasing in the Patna Circle where the outturn and market ra [...] Sugar factories have now started in the Deccan and these coupled with the drop in the price of gur will soon expose the fallacy of over-manuring and over-irrigating which has been such a feature in the past cultivation of Pounda in the Deccan and enable the Manjri improvements to be pushed ahead rapidly. [...] An essential factor is the checking of adulteration and the improvement of marketing in order to secure to the grower the true value of his produce and to prevent the destruction of superior cottons for commercial purposes by malpractices.
