On the one hand he needs a knowledge of the subjects which he has to teach an acquaintance with the nature of the pupil's mind and with the principles which underlie the *aching art and some knowledge of the history of education in the past. [...] These are all means to an end and the end is the formation of the character of the boy which we trust in time will be the formation of the character of many generations in India. [...] Besides the improvments in the general appearance of the building by the addition of new furniture and pictures as reported last year there is increased neatness in all the work of the school and the teachers have entered into the spirit of improved methods of teaching and are conducting their work on more efficient lines. [...] As in the previous year a shamiana was erected in the western part of the school compound and the school gate and the passage leading up to the entrance of the shamiana were tastefully decorated with orname*al flowers flags and other articles that formed part of the Red Road decorations during the recent Royal Visit to Calcutta. [...] The little children of the model school recited some Bengali and English pieces much to the satisfaction of the President and of the other gentlemen present Another prominent feature of the ceremony was the acting of a play dealing with the early years of the famous reformer.Buddha.
