These aims as summarised by Mayhew were— (a) the training of Hindus and Muhammadans to assist in the administration of the country ; (b) the increase of its material resources and prosperity ; and (c) the enlightened co-operation of the Indian peoples in the supression of moral and social evils attributed to superstitious ignorance.
