[...] 1 The Mahahharata Department:— The progress of the publcation of the Mahabharata work upto 1-3-1939 consisted of the pulication of the Adiparvan the Virataparvan and the text of the Udyogaparvan making up a total of 2200 pages. [...] 5. The General Department :— During the year the Institute organised a series of extension lectures for the benefit of the members of the Institute and the general public. [...] It is now eight years that the department started the work of the Pratika Index for the costituted text and the corresponding interpolations of the Critical Edition of the Mahabharata. [...] b. Finances :-- In spite of the fact that the Institute organized the work on the Critical Edition of the Mahabharata twenty years ago and has worked on it since that time with the financial support of the wealthy and cultured public as also other benefactors the immediate future of this work has been causing much coneern to the authorities of the Institute.
