[...] Thai pehaps more than anything else accounts for the smooth and efficient manner.in *which the Ordipance was applied to the industry and especially must the thanks of the industry be tendered to the Advsory Committee on whoa fell the brunt of the major portion of the detailed work under the Ordinance voluntarily undertaken by them at the request of the Government -of Bengal to the offici [...] The cotton mill industry occupied the unenviable premier place in industrial disputes over the comic of the decade with the jute mill industry second but the figures when analysed showed that whereas in the first 5 years of the decade cotton mills had contributed 69% to the total ivlustrial disputes of the country in the second half of the decade this had fallen to 50%. [...] This more.than ever demonstrated to the Committee the wisdom of the plan followed since the general strikes of 1937 of increasing and uncepirig attention to labour matters; for informa; tion in the Committee's possession revealed that in 1938—especially in the latter portion of the year after the promulgation of the Bengal lute Ordinance—the activities of the agitators had beengreater more inten
