It starts with a complaint from the Government of Raghoji.: Bhonsla that Banjaras supplying grains to the British were-e-vading payment of duties at the octroi outposts./ The appointment of Jaswant Ramchandra to the office of the Minister for English Affairs at the Court of the Bhonsla is of special interest and the Secretary to Government Mr. [...] The seat in the Khuwasee has always been consdered as the right of the Dewan and of some one of the princpal omrahs and such importance is attached to the distinction conferred by it that in the life time of Meer Allum Munir-uMoolk offered a bribe of six Iakhs of rupees to any of the ladies"INTRODUCTION ix in the mahal who had influence enough to procure it for him. [...] Of the Other topics the prolonged negotiation between Elphist and the ' ja. of Kolhapur for the cession of Malwan to the British for the settlement of the disputes about the districti of Man vlv Chickori Raibag and Kagal forms the subject matter of some of the documents. [...] The pith of his negtiatioj is stated in a letter he had written to the Rajah of Kolhapur in which the Raja was required "to submit to the arbitration of the British Government and to give up Malwaun for the security of the British Vessels on the coast.
