Government of Bihar Finance Department: Financial Statement for the Year 1948-49

1948

Notes.—(i) The expression Current estimates" means the budget estimates for the year 1947-48 as passed by the Legislature last year ; " Revised" means the estimate of receipts and expenditure for the same year as now modified on the basis of information available at the time of compilation ; and " Budget" means the receipts and expenditure estimated for the year 1948.49 for the province of Bihar. [...] This was partly due to the warning issued by the Government of India on the eve of the constitutional changes to the effect that the then existing Government was responsible for development grants up to the date of division of the country only and that it would be for the successor Government to consider what development grants if any should be paid to the Provinces for the latter part of 1947 [...] In the absence of any intimation from the Government of India as to the share of Jute Duty payable to the Provincial Government in resp3ct of the current financial year and the next 10 00 has been provided both in the Revised and Budget. [...] The increase of 2 59 in the Revised and 2 50 in the Budget is due partly to the increased prosperity of the cinema houses and partly to the continuance of the Bihar Entertainment Duty (War Surcharge A mendi.3:ent) Act 1943. [...] The increase of 67 in the Revised is mainly due to continuance of the Inspection of Motor Vehicles for the full year and also for the provision made for the pay and allowances of the Secretary Provincial Transport Authority.
