Of several measures which have been taken to improve the internal working of the administrative machinery of the department mention may be made of the revision and publication of the Beno-al Education Code and the institution of the Examination in Accounts Rules and Practice for departmental officers. [...] The increase in the number of high schools was due to the opening of new schools under private management and the raising of middle schools to high school status. [...] The increase in the number of colleges has not led to an increase in the admissions for there is a drop of 2 676 in the number of scholars. [...] The following may be mentioned as illustrative of the type of questions asked :— The advancement of Moslem education grants to schools for the depressed classes the causes of the outbreak of strikes compulsory physical training and military drill medical inspection provident funds for teachers in non-Government institutions Sanskrit as an optional subject in secondary schools the supply of li [...] There is no officer of the department on any municipal board but the educational budgets of the municipalities are prepared in consultation with the District Inspector of Schools approvedi14 by the Inspector of Schools and sanctioned by the Commissioner of the Division.
