Again in A. D. 1821_ Dhanicho (you are the master) " the Sarkar's pleasure is above all." In A. D. 1822 " Jem Sarkar ni marji " " as the sarkar wills." On the other hand the style of the Nawab in writing to the Sheikh is the same as that used by the Gaikwar Babaji to the Sheikh viz. [...] Though the Chief of "Mangrol is guilty of the grossest irregularity in confining a " subject of mine in irons I cannot from a consideration of what " the saheb may think of the matter take any steps to vindicate " my authority; and I consequently beg of the saheb to instruct " me how I am to regulate the various relations in which I stand " with the Grassias subject to my jurisdiction." Governm [...] *Sic in original Finally Mangrol submitted and handed an agreement to the Nawab of which the following is the substance : That the Sheik will in just fashion according to ancient custom submit to dependence in the same way as he did up to the *of Jhalla Gowindji's farm in 1829 and will conform to the settlement made in A. D. 1834 by arbitration about the management of the joint villages. [...] In 1853 the Mangrol Sheik wrote to Colonel Lang to say that a Dhobi had murdered a Nagar boy and that the boy's father demanded in retaliation the life of the murderer and Mangrol says— But the Sarkar being the rulers of the country I cannot " do so without first referring the matter to it. [...] Under these circumstances there is no fault wha" ever of mine in this affair." Government replied—" In the absence of any complaint from " the Junagarh authorities showing an undue exercise of authority " by the Sheikh of Mangrol the previous Resolution of Government " to abstain from interference appears to the Right Honorable the " Governor to be on the whole the most advisable course."
