The southern district of Naysari lies on either side of the Tapti forming a mosaic with the villages of the Surat collectorate and is separated from the Baroda district by the States of the Rewa—Kantha and the Broach district. [...] Maharaja Khanderao's reign 1856-70 will be memorable for the service he rendered to the British at the time of the Mutiny and the construction of the first railway line in the State between Mivagam and Dabhoi; fur reforms which brought a semblance of regularity in the administration of justice and of land revenue. [...] It is my fervent hope that as the outcome of these concessions which meet the equities of the case to the fullest extent the agricultrist will be encouraged in a life of prudence and thrift and will earnestly seek a higher standard of life and level of prosperity." The same solicitude for the welfare of his people is seen in the creation of the Savajirao Memorial Trust. [...] It prepares the 1 :clget statement of the estimated receipt; and expenditure for the coming year keeps the government informed of the chief cause: of fluctuations and with the lick-) of the budget committee advises government 011 all questions affecting the finances of the State; sumits government a rcappropriation report explaining the reasons of the variations.
