Government of Madhya Pradesh: Report on the Forest Administration in Madhya Pradesh For the Year Ending the 31st March 1951

The increase in the number of fires and that of the area burnt were due to (i) inadequacy of funds to carry out effective fire protetion (ii) carelessness and growing apathy of the people to help the forest staff in checking and preventing fires and (iii) inadequate rains during the year. [...] The sanction of Government to the introduction of the revised working plan of the Nagpur-Wardha Division which was completed during 1947-48 was received during the year. [...] The case regarding the murder of Forest Guard Rakhan Singh of Jhina beat in the Jagmanclal Range of the Mandla Division referred to in the previous reports was decided during the year and the accused persons were acquitted by the court. [...] Of these 15 (seven in the Eastern Circle and eight in the Chhattisgarh Circle) cases were compounded and five (three in the Eastern Circle and two in the Chhattisgarh Circle) were dropped leaving three cases pertaining to the Eastern Circle pending at the close of the year.
