The rainfall of the year and the average rainfall for the last twelve years are shown in the accompanying graph. [...] Again groundnut helped the preparation of soil to a considerable extent as it requires a good deal of handling at the time of harvesting the nuts. [...] This may probably be due to the fact that the groundnut being a legumnous crop leaves the land richer in nitrogen than the turmeric ; besides the !atter occupies the ground for nearly eight months of the year and thus exhausts the soil relatively more. [...] One of the important functions of farm yard manure and other bulky manures is to imprive the physical condition of the soil and at the same time conserve moisture. [...] The cost of production for one ton of cane is almost equal in both the plots manured with farm yard manure and trash (pachat) but in the case of san plot the cost works out very low viz.
