His Excellency in Council has read with pleasure; the reporof the Inspector-General that relations between the public and the force have continued to improve that the work of the police in difficult circumstances has won general apprecia!ion and that there is a growing readiness on the part of the public to assist the police in carrying out their duties. [...] The Inspector-General of Police draws attention to the increased responsibilities of the police force owing to the extension of railways the rapid rise in motor traffic and the growth of large urban areas at Patna Dhanbad and Jamshedpur Jamalpur and otherigAcee and it is evident that the increase in the number and variety of the the police is a severe strain on a force uties which are expected [...] A stroke of the pen transferred the advantage to the other side and exposed the police to the jeers and throats of the released prisoners on whom the pact while it robbed the police of their weapons of defence imposed little or no restriction. [...] Though most people continued to show relutance to help the police there were not wanting instances of useful help rendered by members of the public and of appreciation of the efforts of the police to serve the public.3 7. The budget estimate for the year 1931.32 was Rs. [...] Most districts complain of the inadequacy of the police generally and of the town police and the reserve in particular.
