Though the culture of the Senjithongji and the Eastern Monbas has developed along slightly different lines they speak the same language and are undoubtedly of the same stock and brief description of the tatter is contained in para 2 of this note. [...] Thus the Mijenji are attached to the Thongduk the Sin-"1948) JOURNAL OF THE INDIAN ANTHROPOLOGICAL INSTITUTE 3 sanji to the Thongchi and Thongju the Duinglong to the Krime and the Mijuiji to the Mesovi and Wangiya. [...] On the day of the annual worship of the serpent deity Manasa these drawings are made most elaborately on the floors of the houses on the verandas and on the open courtyards by means of rice-paste the common ingredient used for this purpose. [...] Among the snake-drawings which I have personally seen in the course of my investigations I must admit that the drawings which are made by the higher class Hindu women of the North-Eastern part of East Bengal or the parts of East Mymensing North Tippera and Western Sylhet are certainly the best from the points of technique exection and variety. [...] In this area on the day of the annual worship of the serpent-deity detailed drawings are made on the earthern floor of the room in which the worship is held.
