The importance of this charter lies in the fact that it brings to light the existence of two kings of the name Hastivarman in the 8alankayana family. [...] In the absence of any details pertaining to the date of the grant it is hardly possible to fix the date of the record. [...] 12 belongs to the time of Aliya Ramaraja the son-in-law of Krishnaraya who the inscription states restored order in the administration ol the villages in the Rocicia Wall which had fallen into disorder on the death of the king viz. [...] 20 to 23 dated in &aka 1611 in the reign of the Mahrattl king SarhbhOji record the renovation of the Kanaka-sabh4 at Chidathbaram by Chittambala-yogin and the performance of the kulithhabhishaa ceremony by Muttayya Dikshita who is described as the kula-guru of the royal house. [...] It is written in characters of the 10th century A. D. and belongs to the reign of Parakgsarivarman 4ditya ' who took the head of the Pandya '. The sculptures depicted on the stone represent two persons each in the act of cutting off his own head held by the tuft in the left hand with sword held in the right hand The circumstances wider which this act of self-immolation was done are unfortunately
