OF all Acts of the Indian Legislature none has required such a careful nursing at tb hands of the most leading jurists of the day as the TRANSFER OF PROPERTY ACT 1882. [...] To a practising lawyer such a knowledge is not only essential but indispensable for in the words of Lord Coke it is generallyetruthat the law is unknown to him that knoweth not the reason thereof; and that the known certai►y of the law is the safety of all ' or as Lord Bacon said these principles ve Ithose legurn leges essential to the true understanding and pre application of the law where [...] With 'these two-fold okects in view the commentary on each section has been preceded by tl?ree articles ender the headings of Analogous law " " Principle " and Meaning of words." The object of the first is to collect in one place under each section all the cognate sections of the Indian Acts and their English prototypes to trace its genealogy and to show the relationship it bears to the corresp [...] The work closes with a full report on the Act made by the Law Commisioners and by the Select Committee as well as of the discussions in the Legislative Council at the time of the passing of the Act and its subsequent amendments.
